Chattanooga, Girl Power, Photography, Spiders, Tarantulas

103113_279GirlPowerRHappy Halloween!

I thought it only appropriate to shoot this as the photo of the day since it is our scary holiday.

We’re doing a story on people who own tarantulas as pets, so I tagged along with the photographer during the assignment.

I’m not sure what my cats would think of these guys; but I don’t think I’ll give them an opportunity to find out.

No offense, Miss Spider.

Chattanooga, Clock on the wall, Photography, Time

103013_278FiveThirteenROn my way out the door to find my photo of the day, I was stopped by this clock. I’ve walked past this clock – Heaven only knows how many times. I’ve never given it much thought.

But today it caught my eye. Who knows why. But the way it’s presented here gives it a feeling of a prison, mental health facility or orphanage.

In this case, all of the above.

Americas Thrift Store, Ceramic ducks, City Dump, Crap at my Parents House blog, Goodwill, Photography

102913_277OneMansTrashRI got an opportunity to go to our satellite dump today to drop off some stuff and noticed these two lovely pieces just sitting outside of the dumpsters.

Hmm. I suppose the previous owner just couldn’t quite bring him or herself to drop them in the garbage.

No wonder, either! SOMEONE will want them!

But the question that comes to mind is: WHY not drop them off at Goodwill or America’s Thrift Store? Or have a garage sale?

No! Not a garage sale. That’s too much trouble. I hope I never do that again.

But anyway, I worry they got dumped into the bin after I left. I really should have picked them up and given them a good home. Shoot. I didn’t think about it. But then again, I’m trying to clean out my house. Not restock it.

At any rate, they were left with loving care at least. Perhaps a short story could be written about them.

But I digress. They bring to mind one of my favorite blogs: “Crap at my Parents’ House.” If you want a good laugh, peruse it a while. It will be worth your time. You may even recognize some stuff.

Atlanta photographer, Chattanooga, Civil War era building, Photography, Renovation, Sarah Dorio, Warehouse Row

102813_276SecondRenovationRThis is Warehouse Row, obviously.

A Civil War era building that was turned into warehouses at the turn of the 20th century, Warehouse Row was renovated in the late 1980s or early 90s….(I can’t remember the exact date)….. and turned into an outlet mall.

Slowly but surely those shops vanished and Warehouse Row became a ghost town again. But a few years ago, the Jamestown Co. bought and renovated it and brought in high-end stores.

The interior design is something to see in itself. I like to go there for decorating ideas for my house – on a smaller dollar scale, of course.

It’s down the street from the newspaper, so I find myself either inside or driving by frequently. Window shopping, I assure you. I work for a newspaper – not Wall Street.

Anyway, it’s fun to visit and dream. The website has lots of great photos taken by an Atlanta photographer, Sarah Dorio. She’s great!

They all give me lots of inspiration.

102613_GameDayRWe went to the Alabama vs. Tennessee football game today. Alabama won – 45 to 10.

It’s a huge rivalry – and even though we live in Tennessee, we are Alabama fans.

They’ve been pretty good lately.

This is a shot of the fans filing out of the stadium.

102613_273SHARKRWe went to the IMAX Theatre tonight for date night and saw, “Great White Shark.”

(We had originally planned to go to the Tennessee Aquarium as well, but it just was not in the cards today. We had a lot of obstacles. We’ll try to go sometime next week.)

But anyway, the show was great. GREAT!

102513_272SlicedPomegranateRI took the day off today to clean the house.

Yes, I’ve done it for years. I actually LOVE to clean.

It is therapeutic to me. Sick, I know.

But anyway, I stopped long enough to slice one of my pomegranates to get this shot.

Now I’m too tired to write anything else. And my feet hurt. But the house is clean. Well, part of it is.

Chattanooga, Grainery, Newspaper, Photography

102313_TheGraineryNextDoorRI notice I’m on an architecture kick now. Hmm.

I’ll have to make a conscious effort to not do that tomorrow.

But anyway, this is the grainery next to the newspaper. I have no idea the name of it. But I like the silos – until they catch on fire. When that happens, we all have to evacuate several blocks. Apparently there would be a serious explosion if it got out of hand.

Consequently, we get a lot of birds in the parking lot. They love all of the excess grain.

Forest Hills Cemetery, Mausoleum, Photography

102213_270MausoleumIvyRPoison ivy grows on a mausoleum in the Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga.

It’s a very old cemetery, and there are a lot of locally famous people buried there.

The primary reason I went there to shoot a photo was because there is a statue of a woman there that looks just like me. It’s spooky.

I did not find her today. I’ll have to try again another day.
