Chattanooga, Photography, Ross Hotel, Yesterday's

102113_269YesterdayAndTodayRThis is an exterior wall of the former Ross Hotel in downtown Chattanooga. It is currently up for sale if anyone is interested.

But the bottom portion of it used to contain one of our old stomping grounds called, “Yesterday’s.” That was over 30 years ago. Argh.

Seems like…..well, yesterday.

I had no idea it used to be a hotel. I never gave it any thought past my time spent inside of Yesterday’s. It’s rival hangout was called the Brass Register a couple of blocks over. They both had bands and lots of college kids. They are both long out of business. Styles and tastes changed. Plus, we’ve had a massive renovation downtown. Places like those were no longer popular.

But back in their heyday…….! Wow. We had fun.

It would be really nice if someone could buy and restore the great hotel back to something great. From what I’ve been reading, it was quite a hotel.

Headache, Mexican Coke, Photography, Reflection

102013_268TheRealThingBackwardsRI woke up early with a headache this morning, so I decided to explore the settings of my new iphone upgrade.

I mostly played around with the camera settings.

I’m trying my hand at art photography again. Not bad, but I think I’ll stick with the 35mm.

Dog, Peanut butter, Pet cone, Photography

101913_267ThereAreNoWordsRI apologize for the same subject two days in a row – but this one HAD to be posted.

I was working in the yard earlier today when I looked up and saw this scene.

My first thought was, “What on earth is he looking at?”

My second thought was:

Where’s my camera?

But I knew what he was doing. I had given him his peanut butter jar to distract him from scratching. I smear peanut butter inside old plastic jars to give him a treat; but it also gives him a big distraction since it’s not so easy to get all of the peanut butter out.

But it’s especially hard for him with the cone on his head because he can’t hold it with his paws and lick it at the same time.

This was his solution. He stood the jar right side up and licked it that way.

Told you he was smart.

Animal surgery, Lamp shades, Pets, Photography, Veterinarian

101813_266DimBulbRActually, he’s not a “dim bulb,” at all. Murray is quite smart. He just looks dumb here.

He had surgery on his eye and hip last week, so today was the day to get the stitches out….and to take off his lamp shade – or “Crown,” as we call it.

He was waiting Not So Patiently for the technicians to come back in. He could hear them on the other side of the door. He absolutely LOVES being at the vet. He likes the attention and the treats they all give him.

Told you he wasn’t dumb.

If you look closely at the top left of the frame, the movement you see is his tail wagging. It never stops when he’s there.

But, then again, he never stops moving anyway. He loves life and all it has to offer. The simplest thing delights him.

We should all learn from Mr. Murray.

Chattanooga, Cherry Street Diner, Krystal, Photography

101713_265ScenesFromADinerRThis is the window from the Cherry Street Diner – formally the original Krystal Building in downtown Chattanooga.

The soldier eating by himself bothered me a bit. Perhaps he was waiting on someone.

Buckle Co., Chattanooga storefront, Photography, Pipes, Plumbing

101613_264PipesROne of the storefronts I have photographed for this project – Buckle Co. – has bitten the dust. So, the new owners / tenants are renovating it. Or maybe Buckle Co. is renovating. I do not know.

I also don’t know what the deal is with these pipe elbows.

Why? How many turns will the plumbing be making?

Weird!

101513_263GreenBugRWhile framing up my intended photo of the day, I noticed this little guy.

Too bad I didn’t get him in focus.

One shot, one chance. Too bad for me.

101413_262SkylightsRI had to go to the mailbox today, which is outside of the newspaper where I work, and decided to take the long way back inside.

I could not help but notice what a gorgeous day it was, so I snapped this image as I made my way back in.

Good thing, too. I probably will not have another opportunity to get a good shot.

101313_261HeadlessElvisRThe question is: Was this Elvis statue purchased without a head?…. or did it get broken after it was bought?

And why is it still being proudly displayed? Does it make it more valuable without the head? Hmmmm.

I HAD to take this photo. I cannot stop laughing at the microphone held up to a mouth that is no longer there.

You ain’t nothin but a …… headless Elvis statue, cryin all the time…

Golden eagle, Hydrangeas, Photography, Picnic lunch, Tennessee River

101213_260PicnicFlowersRWell, we didn’t actually go on a picnic. We just ate lunch out on the deck. But I like to call it going on a picnic.

Since we live close to the Tennessee River, we sometimes see really cool animals. Today we saw an eagle flying over our heads. I ran to get my binoculars; and after seeing him up close, I THINK he was a golden eagle. But I am no expert. That is for sure. But one thing is certain, he was a MASSIVE bird.

But none of that has anything to do with my photo. I just liked the flowers on the table.
