First Aid Kit – Snapshot of the Day, No. 233

091513_233FirstAidKitRJoe and I decided to do something nice for his parents today and clean their boat while they are out of town.

We used Simple Green and bleach on most of the boat – and it took most of the day to finish our task.

THIS is what Joe found in the hull of the boat – his father’s first aid kit.

Good thing we never needed it.

We’ll have to replace it tomorrow.

Monkey Business – Snapshot of the Day, No. 232

091413_232MonkeyBusinessRdMy sister and I spent the day together today, and we spent part of it at the Chattanooga Zoo. This is in part of the Spider Monkey exhibit. Apparently they like to play with the patrons.

We were told they like to blow kisses, too.

Shoes, Shoes Everywhere, and Not a Pair For Me – Snapshot of the Day, No. 231

091313_231ShoesEverywhereRYou know what they say! Women love shoes and they can’t have enough of them.

I, on the other hand, am lucky I have any shoes at all. I can no longer find my size. Especially in heels. I suppose the buyers think most people don’t wear size 5, so why order them?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve sulked out of a shoe store furious I was leaving empty handed – or empty footed in this case.

I was forced to order my last pair of shoes online. Fine. I don’t REALLY care, but it does take some of the shopping fun out of it.

But I actually was not shopping here. I was searching for my photo of the day before I met Joe for dinner. This happened to be the shoe store, Aldo. The shoes looked pretty cute; but like I said, I wasn’t really shopping.

Magazine Rack – Snapshot of the Day, No. 230

091213_230MagazineRackRLook! Actual books and magazines. Who would have thought.

Of course, she’s the only one there…..

I went to Books-A-Million today to kill some time while waiting on Joe, so that’s where I found this woman.

I love going to bookstores. They are very quiet – yet full of stories.

Murray – Snapshot of the Day, No. 229

091113_229MurrayROne would think this dog was homeless and sad from the expression on his face.

He is quite the opposite, I can assure you. He had gotten into cobwebs and Husky fur, and was trying to get them off of his face when I grabbed the camera. (Actually, he had removed most of it by the time I got back outside. Story of my life.) His partner in crime, Lilly, is a Husky/German Shepherd mix, and her fur is everywhere. So are the cobwebs this time of year.

Anyway, this is Murray. Happy and very much a part of the family. He’s also very adept at milking a treat out of me at any given moment using this face.

I stuffed him into my car about 8 years ago after I saw him on the side of the interstate. I got Lilly at the Humane Society for him to have a friend.

No wonder I don’t have any money.

Early Halloween – Snapshot of the Day, No. 228

091013_228EarlyHalloweenRI used to work on a mask series several years ago, so this time of year was always my favorite time to look for unusual masks.

I would never have …… well, I might have used this creep clown mask….. but I usually chose something unusual vs. scary.

I shot black and white sheet film using a 4×5 field camera. Ah! I miss my darkroom days. Maybe one day I’ll go back to it.

But I found these at “Halloween Express,” which is a popup store this time of year. I went in one night several years ago closer to Halloween. Let me tell you. That is when the vampires come out to shop.

Pretty scary.

Blue Plate Special – Snapshot of the Day, No. 227

090913_227BluePlateSpecialRBeing back at work, I don’t have that many opportunities to find something spectacular, and today was no different. But it’s kind of unique.

I decided to be sociable today and go to lunch with a few of my fellow co-workers.

We went to Southern Star downtown. This pillar was displaying the specials of the day. I liked the colors and textures – but I also liked seeing the Southern foods offered

I also secretly wished I had a nice handwriting like this one.

Lake Dinner – Snapshot of the Day, No. 226

090813_226LakeDinnerRAnd we’re back.

This is the back deck of Dockside Cafe inside Harrison Bay State Park. We had dinner with Joe’s parents there after we got back from our trip.

I chose it because it was pretty much as far removed from Manhattan as it gets….at least in the U.S. Well, perhaps not; but it is quite different.

Italian Dinner – Snapshot of the Day, No. 225

090713_225ItalianDinnerRWe stayed in Long Island and watched football all day this day; but we did get an opportunity to go out to eat at a local restaurant – Caffee Amici.

We were all very tired, so it was good to just sit and visit.

Car Tourist – Snapshot of the Day, No. 224

090613_224CarTouristRWe had a whirlwind trip. My cousin’s husband drove us everywhere. (We owe him a LOT for his generosity.)

But at any rate, if you’ve ever been in a car or taxi in Manhattan, you know it’s a very fast-paced experience. And more than a little horrifying.

This shot pretty much sums up how we saw a lot of the sites.

This, of course, is the Brooklyn Bridge.
