We Found Him – Snapshot of the Day, No. 211

082413_211WeFoundHimROur lost green frog, Jethro, has been found. Apparently he moved from his pond in the front yard to the backyard – not a good choice since that’s where the dogs live – and jumped into our antique hot tub and cannot get out. We had planned to turn it into a pool / pond for the dogs, but just haven’t had a chance yet. However, since we’ve had lots of rain this summer, water has collected – along with mosquito lava. Perfect for a wayward frog.

Anyway, while working in our very neglected backyard today, I noticed a very large being in the water. My jaw dropped for two reasons: 1. It was Jethro! He’s been gone for months. And 2. He has grown a LOT. He’s huge! Look at the legs on this guy. Apparently he doesn’t care one bit he can’t get out. He’s eating like a king.

I suppose I’ll have to read up on where green frogs hibernate for the winter. If they burrow underground instead of in the water, I’ll have to move him back into the front yard. They only problem with that, however, is a new, baby green frog has moved into the front yard’s pond. I’ll have to research to see if they can cohabitate in one pond without harming each other. Well, without Jethro eating Mr. Slate. (He’s named for his very black color. He’ll get greener as he grows.)

To much info for most, but I’m thrilled! I feared he had been eaten. Instead, he has been eating.

Summer Peppers – Snapshot of the Day, No. 210

082313_210SummerPeppersRI got home late and it was raining, so I grabbed some of our peppers we grew this summer and shot them.

We were pretty successful with our little garden: we had tomatoes, bell peppers, jalapeno  peppers, basil and other herbs. Oh, and our berry bushes.

It was fun, and they tasted better than store-bought.

Not at Jack’s – Snapshot of the Day, No. 209

082213_209NotAtJacksRThis scene is actually not at Jack’s Army Store. It’s at Sticky Fingers. I guess it used to be Jack’s Army Store. But this IS in an area called Jacks’s Alley. Joe and I were walking through after our baseball-viewing plans got dashed when the game got – are you ready for this? Rained out. Yes. More rain.

Grain Deliveries – Snapshot of the Day, No. 208

082113_208GrainDeliveriesRIt rained again today, but stopped right before I left work. The light was so pretty, I decided to shoot the delivery area to the granary behind the paper. Birds hang around all of the time to steal as much grain as they can.

I guess these guys were just biding their time.

Champy’s – Snapshot of the Day, No. 206

081913_ChampysRWe had lunch at Champy’s today. Joe showed up at work and we drove the half block to the restaurant on the spur of the moment. We ran into a couple of his friends, so we all sat down and ate together.

It rained all day – again. Man, we have been gypped out of a summer. It is August, and I wore a sweater all day long. No, make that two sweaters.

It’s been crazy!

Flowers From the Garden – Snapshot of the Day, No. 205

081813_205FlowersFromTheGardenRThese are some flowers from our garden – obviously from the title.

It’s been a cool, wet summer. We are usually extremely hot and have to deal with drought situations.

It’s been nice; yet, in some respects – it just doesn’t seem like we’ve had a summer.

Not complaining. Just an observation.

Mud Run – Snapshot of the Day, No. 204

031713_204MudRunRToday was the annual Mud Run competition. The proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity.

A three-mile run of obstacles – and, of course – MUD.

A good time was had by all, except for the unfortunate few how got hurt. Some of the obstacles are pretty tough.
