Railroad Bridge Murals – Snapshot of the Day, No. 161

I’m sure someone knows the story behind these paintings, but I do not. I Googled it, but had no luck. They are on abandoned railroad bridge supports (I’m assuming since they run parallel to an active rail line) half a block down from the newspaper. So you’d think I’d know.

This area was formally known as Onion Bottom. It was called that because there was a city dump there that was constantly burning – and made it smell like onions.

The former Farmers’ Market was in this area, as well. Now it is being revitalized with police services and homeless outreach programs.
