This is our view outside of the windows in the city room of the newspaper. Not very inspirational or uplifting; but then again, before the building was renovated, we had no windows at all. Just those glass blocks that you can’t see out of. Sort of like these…… …..just not as uplifting.

In Vivian’s Shadow – Snapshot of the Day, No. 282
Ok, I’m nowhere near being in Vivian Maier’s shadow, but this is more of an ode to one of her self-portraits. She is definitely one of my favorite photographers. She has a new book out on her self-portraits. I can’t wait!!!!
The Penguin – Snapshot of the Day, No. 281
Well, we finally made it to the Aquarium today. I’ve been wanting to see the penquin exhibit for years. They are in the Salt Water extension of the aquarium. The main building holds fresh water exhibits, including The River Giants. And that’s exactly what they are. They are so big, I announced I was notContinue reading “The Penguin – Snapshot of the Day, No. 281”
Going Postal – Snapshot of the Day, No. 280
We have a beautiful federal building downtown. It contains our federal courthouse, as well as the U.S. Post Office. Jimmy Hoffa was actually tried and convicted in this building in 1964 for jury tampering. He was sentenced to 8 years. But the inside of this building is really beautiful. It reminds me of the architectureContinue reading “Going Postal – Snapshot of the Day, No. 280”
Girl Power – Snapshot of the Day, No. 279
Happy Halloween! I thought it only appropriate to shoot this as the photo of the day since it is our scary holiday. We’re doing a story on people who own tarantulas as pets, so I tagged along with the photographer during the assignment. I’m not sure what my cats would think of these guys; butContinue reading “Girl Power – Snapshot of the Day, No. 279”
5:13 – Snapshot of the Day, No. 278
On my way out the door to find my photo of the day, I was stopped by this clock. I’ve walked past this clock – Heaven only knows how many times. I’ve never given it much thought. But today it caught my eye. Who knows why. But the way it’s presented here gives it aContinue reading “5:13 – Snapshot of the Day, No. 278”
One Man’s Trash…… Snapshot of the Day, No. 277
I got an opportunity to go to our satellite dump today to drop off some stuff and noticed these two lovely pieces just sitting outside of the dumpsters. Hmm. I suppose the previous owner just couldn’t quite bring him or herself to drop them in the garbage. No wonder, either! SOMEONE will want them! ButContinue reading “One Man’s Trash…… Snapshot of the Day, No. 277”
Second Renovation – Snapshot of the Day, No. 276
This is Warehouse Row, obviously. A Civil War era building that was turned into warehouses at the turn of the 20th century, Warehouse Row was renovated in the late 1980s or early 90s….(I can’t remember the exact date)….. and turned into an outlet mall. Slowly but surely those shops vanished and Warehouse Row became aContinue reading “Second Renovation – Snapshot of the Day, No. 276”
Inspiration! – Snapshot of the Day, No. 275
This is my favorite photo of two of our best friends. I placed their photo on top of one of my favorite photographer’s book, Vivian Maier. They all give me lots of inspiration.
Game Day – Snapshot of the Day, No. 274
We went to the Alabama vs. Tennessee football game today. Alabama won – 45 to 10. It’s a huge rivalry – and even though we live in Tennessee, we are Alabama fans. They’ve been pretty good lately. This is a shot of the fans filing out of the stadium.
