Baking, Brownies, Chattanooga, food photography, Tupelo Honey, Warehouse Row

Famous BrowniesAbout a year ago, Tupelo Honey came to town and set up shop at Warehouse Row. Any restaurant that serves biscuits with honey and jam before every meal will certainly last in the South.

Part of the wallpaper on the outside of the restaurant is a blown-up photo of a brownie recipe. Cool! It is hand-written on an index card just like my great grandmother’s. So I did what probably others have done – I took a photo of it and tried my hand at making them at home.

I think I made several mistakes.

I used semi-sweet chocolate and gluten-free flour. And even though I baked them close to an hour, they still did not get done. When I tried to get them out of the pan, they basically fell apart. And sadly, the gluten-free flour made them taste…..not so good.

I plan to re-do them with dark chocolate and regular flour – and a hotter oven. I’ll just have to risk getting a migraine.

Here you go if you want to try them.

110513_284LightingRThe sign pretty much sums it up. Lamps for as far as you can see.

I think this is a room that holds stock for the Revival store at Warehouse Row.

Great stuff. Too expensive for me. But I like to use their decor to come up with ideas for my own house.

102813_276SecondRenovationRThis is Warehouse Row, obviously.

A Civil War era building that was turned into warehouses at the turn of the 20th century, Warehouse Row was renovated in the late 1980s or early 90s….(I can’t remember the exact date)….. and turned into an outlet mall.

Slowly but surely those shops vanished and Warehouse Row became a ghost town again. But a few years ago, the Jamestown Co. bought and renovated it and brought in high-end stores.

The interior design is something to see in itself. I like to go there for decorating ideas for my house – on a smaller dollar scale, of course.

It’s down the street from the newspaper, so I find myself either inside or driving by frequently. Window shopping, I assure you. I work for a newspaper – not Wall Street.

Anyway, it’s fun to visit and dream. The website has lots of great photos taken by an Atlanta photographer, Sarah Dorio. She’s great!

Chattanooga eatery, Crave Cafe & Bakery, Now Open sign, Photography, Warehouse Row

070813_164SoHungryRLocation, location, location.

This sign just needs better placement.

I’m assuming Crave is a new food vendor in the basement of Warehouse Row; but I have not been inside in quite a while, so I’m not really sure. This was shot after hours, so I’ll have to return during operating hours.

Rhinoceros Boutique, Sarah Dorio, Warehouse Row

053113_126RhinocerosShoppingRI walked to Warehouse Row again today to get a little air and decided to shoot this as my snapshot of the day: Rhinoceros Boutique.

It’s a very nice shop. A little too expensive for my salary, however.

I love the photos used on Warehouse Row’s site. They are by Atlanta photographer, Sarah Dorio. I would love to do what she does. She is very good.

food court, lunch, street photography, Typewriter key stools, Warehouse Row

022013_26CleaningLadyRThere is something about this food court that keeps bringing me back. When it first opened in the newly remodeled Warehouse Row, I would walk down from where I work to get design ideas for my husband’s and my new home. I love looking down on these typewriter key stools and watching people talking and eating their lunches.

I was in luck today. Two entire tables of people gathered for lunch. And when I switched lenses, they all got up and left. Typical.

And then it happened. I saw the cleaning lady wiping down the tables. “MAYBE, just maybe she’ll come to where I need her to be,” I thought to myself. But then, a lady sat down right below where I was standing. I framed the shot right when the lovely cleaning lady moved into my photo. CLICK! And I was gone. I had two meetings to get to, and time ticking away on the parking meter. Perfect timing. Thank you to both of you!

020813_14SocialRThis is a bar called, The Social, and it’s inside of Warehouse Row downtown. I have always heard about this place, but have never had the chance to go there. It looks pretty nice.
