Tennis Fans – Snapshot of the Day, No. 223

090513_223TennisFansRThe main reason we went to New York was to watch a tennis match at the U.S. Open. Joe has always wanted to see a match, so we decided – why not?

We saw the Bryan brothers lose, and then Andy Murray lose.

This image is from the Andy Murray match. I took a panoramic with my cell phone.

Pretty good for a camera phone.

Times Square – Snapshot of the Day, No. 222

090413_222TimesSquareRI’m back from a wonderful trip to NYC with my husband, Joe. I had no way of uploading my photos of the day, so I’m doing them all now.

They will be uploaded in the order they were taken to keep with my theme.

I chose to make this one black and white as a tribute to the city that helped give me my photographic knowledge. Most of the stuff I shot back then was black and white.

This is obviously Times Square. It was mayhem.

I loved it!

Choo-Choo Fish – Snapshot of the Day, No. 221

090313_221ChooChooFishRI drove the block or two from work today over to the Chattanooga Choo-Choo to buy a souvenir, of all things, for my cousin in New York. I actually did find something not too touristy, yet Southern at the same time.

I meant to ship her some locally-made MoonPies, I just never got around to actually doing that. So she’ll have to settle for a few other items from here. Little Debbie Snack Cakes are made here, as well, and very delicious, too! (my sister works there, so I had to include them)

Anyway, I digress. I was at the Choo-Choo and could not pass up a trip to the pond that holds all of the goldfish. We have comet goldfish in our modest pond at home; but there are only three of them. Plus a frog. It’s quite small. But this thing is massive. It is in the middle of the rose garden on the grounds of the Choo-Choo. It’s quite the eco-system going. Lots of plants, birds and butterflies. . . and tourists.

Chickenman Floats – Snapshot of the Day, No. 220

090213_220ChickenManFloatsRThis is our dog Murray’s favorite toy – Chickenman. Named for my father’s favorite radio serial by the same name.

It cost .99 cents at Wal-Mart several years ago, but it’s worth a fortune to him. He LOVES this toy.

He offers Chickenman to whomever walks by – but he doesn’t REALLY want you to take him.

One afternoon, my husband actually got Chickenman away from Murray and threw him for Murray to chase. The only problem was, he threw him up in the air, and Chickenman landed in the tree.

Poor Murray. He searched and searched, but could not find his friend. After we stopped laughing, Joe’s solution was to throw another dog toy up in the tree to knock Chickenman down.

Good plan….in theory. What actually happened was two toys ended up in the tree. So, then Joe proceeded to get a pole to knock them both down.

After several attempts, we finally had two toys back on the ground.

Pick of the Day – Snapshot of the Day, No. 219

090113_219PickOfTheDayRWe went to lunch today at Big River after church today. At one point, I felt someone looking at me. I turned and saw this extra cute little girl leaning over the back of the booth staring at me…..with her finger up her nose. I instantly dug inside of my purse for my cell phone to get a photograph. As soon as I hit the button, she moved. There was a slight delay, too, due to focusing, so I really missed the best shot. But I decided to use it anyway because it’s such a funny story – and she’s such a lovely little girl.

Pulling Back the Curtain – Snapshot of the Day, No. 218

083113_218PullingBackTheCurtainRWe went to Atlanta today for the opening game of college football. Alabama (our team) – Roll Tide! vs. Virginia Tech at the Georgia Dome.

We stopped for lunch at Maggiano’s Little Italy – our very favorite Italian restaurant. I saw these kids on the other side of the curtains and had to take their photo.

We had a great time, and our team won!

It was a good day.

End of the Day – Snapshot of the Day, No. 217

083013_217EndOfTheDayRWe’ve been renovating my old house. The one I grew up in. And it’s taking a lot longer than we had originally thought. But we’ve learned a lot, and for the most part, have had fun.

But it’s about time to go. We are about finished; but mostly, we are just tired. Joe and his dad built this fence, and I created this sidewalk last October. Now the broadleaf violet  is started to creep over my work. Weeds! Nothing a weedeater won’t take care of.

Anyway, I took this photo at the end of the day today; but it’s also symbolizing the end of an era for me.

The World in 3D – Snapshot of the Day, No. 216

082913_216WorldIn3DRI decided to go to our IMAX theater’s gift shop today to buy some presents for my cousins. I had forgotten how beautiful the lobby of the place is. I think the world sculpture was created by one of our local artists, Jim Collins.

But don’t quote me on that. I can’t find anything on it at the moment. But it looks like his stuff.

At any rate, he’s a very nice man who is a wonderful artist. And the IMAX is a 3D theater that is associated with our aquarium. They are both pretty cool.
