Nikki’s, an old-fashioned hamburger joint, is a landmark in Chattanooga. It opened in the 40s and hasn’t made many changes since. (You still cannot pay for your meal with anything other than cash.) My father and I meet there frequently for lunch, and both of us always order the same thing: He gets a hamburger, and I get a toasted pimento cheese sandwich and bottled Coke. Oh, and we split an order of onion rings. They’re gooooood! It’s usually standing room only at lunch, too, so patrons know to eat fast so those waiting can get a seat as soon as possible.
Patio Raindrops – Snapshot of the Day, No. 52
It rained a LOT today, but was subsiding as we were finishing up with dinner at Big River. These drops of water were like beads on a necklace. They were very pretty, so I could not resist.
Miss Lilly – Snapshot of the Day, No. 51
We finally took the time to take the dogs for a walk today. One dog likes water and the other one does not. Lilly loves to get in the water, especially if she is hot. It was not hot to us today, but to a part-Husky, it must have been pretty warm. 69 degrees I think the temperature got to be. Anyway, she gets a big smile on her face whenever she gets a chance to take a dip.
Dinner Cruise – Snapshot of the Day, No. 50
We went to a party tonight on our local dinner cruise boat, so I thought I’d bring my camera along to find my snapshot of the day. These four people were engrossed in a conversation and never noticed my taking their photo.
It’s interesting looking at what is going on here. The top two have all of the drinks and cigarettes, and the bottom two have nothing. They seem like intruders; complete with arms folded – and they are even removed physically from the table. The top two are more relaxed and comfortable – especially with each other.
Might make a great short story assignment for an English class.
Railroad Bridge – Snapshot of the Day, No. 49
At the risk of getting hit by a car, I decided to pull over to shoot a photo of this bridge. Lots of people pull off the road here to fish, so I thought I’d be relatively safe – sort of. I am usually the one who shakes my head whenever I drive by all of the parked cars. But it was just going to take a minute…….
I waited a bit in hopes a train would come across the bridge. I even heard a train whistle. But the longer I waited, the darker it was getting, so I took it and got back in my car.

Discarded Newspapers – Snapshot of the Day, no. 45
It was really windy this morning. So windy in fact, most of our papers from the dumpster blew out and into the street for a couple of blocks. It looked good, too. Trash everywhere. Great.
But it also seemed to symbolize the newspaper industry’s demise in general. At least in print form. Gone with the wind, so to speak.
Super Hero – Snapshot No. 44
Our Super Hero neighbor. He frequently sports a cape and wings for his shoes. Today it was the cape. This is what I saw when I walked into the entry hall.
Although this is a lousy photo, I got some really good ones later on. He’s a great subject.
While “helping” us later in the day, he started playing with the garden hose. He sprayed himself in the face and then took off running for home. Unfortunately, he tripped over a root and fell flat on his face in the mud. Unhurt, but COVERED in mud, I burst out laughing. . . as did his parents. But the difference was, I could NOT stop laughing. He even had mud on the tip of his nose. When he stood up, it was dripping off of him.
Now THAT would have been a great shot!
