I’ve been waiting for several years to capture this railroad bridge in the fog. I almost did it this morning, but I don’t think it is quite there yet. I’ll keep trying. This bridge is over the Tennessee River near the Chickamauga Dam. A TVA project back during the Depression.

EZ Pawn – Snapshot of the Day, No. 249
Inspired by yesterday’s photo, I decided to shoot something on the edgier side of town today. So when I got the chance, I drove to Rossville Boulevard to see what I could find. It’s notorious for used car lots, pawn shops and adult bookstores. I was not looking for anything that was worth a documentary.Continue reading “EZ Pawn – Snapshot of the Day, No. 249”
Past Lives – Snapshot of the Day, No. 248
I drive past this building at lest twice a day during the week. I am fascinated by the doors that lead to a long-since-gone balcony. I try to imagine who used to live in these rooms and what sort of lives they lived. The building fronts M.L. King Boulevard – which back in the dayContinue reading “Past Lives – Snapshot of the Day, No. 248”
Roadster – Snapshot of the Day, No. 247
“Fun to drive.” That is what the sign said. So of course we stopped to look at it. Joe’s father cannot pass up doing anything fun – he especially cannot pass a car for sale without perusing it for a while. His interest is legendary. He did not buy it – yet. But he knowsContinue reading “Roadster – Snapshot of the Day, No. 247”
Fans – Snapshot of the Day, No. 246
We are Alabama football fans. These are the two gentlemen who were sitting in front of us today during the Ole Miss game. I assumed they were long-time friends. Perhaps old fraternity brothers from years ago during their time at the University of Alabama. They may have been father and son. I just couldn’t tellContinue reading “Fans – Snapshot of the Day, No. 246”
Self-Portrait With Shadows – Snapshot of the Day, No. 245
Well, I don’t call it Photos and Migraines for nothing. I had a doozy of a headache today. I stayed home from work, too. That has only happened once before in my 30 years of dealing with these stupid things. But anyway, I stepped outside later in the afternoon today and noticed these shadows. InstantContinue reading “Self-Portrait With Shadows – Snapshot of the Day, No. 245”
Do Not Enter – Snapshot of the Day, No. 244
Don’t worry. I won’t! Not with that Twilight Zone message. Typical. I wonder how long this sign has been like this? All it needs is a small nut and bolt to put it back into place. How much could that possibly cost? .50? If I brought them from home to fix it, I’d probably beContinue reading “Do Not Enter – Snapshot of the Day, No. 244”
Porker’s Barbeque – Snapshot of the Day, No. 243
One of our photographers has a birthday this week, so several of us (not these people) met at Porker’s Barbeque today for lunch to celebrate. I’m not much on barbecue, so I settled for a grilled chicken sandwich – which was delicious, by the way. Anyway, the interior has an old-world feel to it, soContinue reading “Porker’s Barbeque – Snapshot of the Day, No. 243”
Field Level – Snapshot of the Day, No. 242
We took the day off from work today to do a few things around the house and then go down Atlanta for a Braves baseball game. As usual, Joe deals with a guy on the street for tickets vs. going to the ticket window. After a couple of minutes, the guy realized we only hadContinue reading “Field Level – Snapshot of the Day, No. 242”
Scottsboro Palm Tree – Snapshot of the Day, No. 241
We had to go to Scottboro, Alabama, tonight, so we stopped at Buenavista again for a lovely Mexican dinner. These palm trees are in their parking lot, so I thought a nice, “out of place,” photo would be different. You wouldn’t think there would be palm trees in the middle of the state of Alabama.
