We Were Soldiers – Snapshot of the Day, No. 303

112413_303WeWereSoldiersROk. So I have a slight addiction to sugar and caffeine. Mexican Cokes are my drug of choice.

They are GOOD! (They are bottled in Mexico, and real sugar is used – making them taste like they did when I was a kid in the late 60s and early 70s.)

Anyway, they are also expensive; so if I can’t finish one at one time, I try to save them for later. They keep their carbonation pretty well.

My father calls empty beer bottles, “Dead Soldiers.” So this morning when Joe opened the refrigerator, he burst out laughing and shouted, “We Were Soldiers!” A takeoff on a Mel Gibson movie… and of course, he was making fun of me.

Like Mother……… Snapshot of the Day, No. 302

112313_302LikeMotherRJoe and I went to Alabama’s last home game of the season today in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. They played the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga – completely out of their league, but UTC got a boatload of money for doing it.

It helps UTC out financially, but it also gives the Alabama players a little rest before one of our greatest rivals next week – Auburn.

The score was 48 to 0.

But anyway, I could not resist shooting this little girl and who I can only assume is her mother. Both are dressed quite fashionably.

I see Crimson pom-poms in this little girl’s future.

Uptown Photo – Snapshot of the Day, No. 301

112213_301UptownPhotoRThis is a corner window of a building I used to work in – YEARS ago. It’s the former Miller Bros. building. Millers was a department store. I think BlueCross owns it now.

My mother had worked there as a graphic designer and layout artist in the late 50s and early 60s. She was really, really good. I worked there as a lowly clerk during the early 80s. I had quit college for a year and a half to help save money for a school I wanted to go to in NYC.

Anyway, these guys happened to be walking by when I stopped to look at the window and reminisce.

Godiva Season – Snapshot of the Day, No. 300

112113_300GodivaSeasonRMy husband knows I have a weakness for Godiva chocolates. Especially their dark chocolate. So every gift-giving occasion, I get two boxes: 1. dark chocolate assortment; and 2. dark chocolate truffles.

He’s a very good husband.

This is one of the truffles from my birthday. After this shot, it was consumed…..and chased with a Coke.

Ah!

Our Favorite Bar – Snapshot of the Day, No. 298

111913_298FavoriteBarRI think I’ve pulled my husband over to the dark side – of chocolate that is.

A former milk chocolate lover, Joe now really appreciates the taste and health benefits of dark chocolate. Chocolove bars – especially the Sea Salt and Almond – is our very favorite.

We can go through a bar in one sitting – but we usually eat it over a couple of nights after dinner.

Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate with Almonds Nuggets is a close 2nd. The dark chocolate and nut combination makes my head feel good.

Spooning – Snapshot of the Day, No. 297

111813_297SpooningRI must admit I stole this idea from a cookbook I was given for my birthday: “Barefoot Contessa, Foolproof.”

She’s one of my step-mother’s favorite cooks – and Lynda is a great cook herself. The Contessa must be doing something right.

I could have called this, “Self Portrait with Spoons. As you can see, I’m in one of the spoon’s reflections – and I still have on my pajamas.

Regular Cookies – Snapshot of the Day, No. 296

111713_296RegularCookiesRThese oatmeal raisin cookies are from a recipe in Gwyneth Paltrow’s cookbook, “My Father’s Daughter.” I alter it a bit because I cannot find all of the ingredients that it calls for.

They are pretty good, and also pretty healthy. The only sugar in them is from maple syrup. Joe and his mom love them because they make them – how shall I say…….

Regular.

Joe calls them “Poop cookies.”

Foggy Hike – Snapshot of the Day, No. 295

111613_295FoggyHikeRToday is my birthday.

It started out with some of my favorite people for breakfast at a McDonald’s – no where near where we live. That meant we had to get up at 5:00 a.m. But it was worth it. Several are WWII veterans. I don’t ever want to miss a chance to visit with them. They meet every morning at 6:00. But Saturday’s they sleep in and meet at 7:00. Daddy calls it, “Going to Coffee.”

When we got home, we piled the dogs in the car and took them for a hike in the woods. It was cool, wet and foggy. Great light for a photo. Five miles later, we were back in the car – the dogs dragging and my sister limping.

Next, dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant and then to the inlaws’ to watch the Alabama vs. Mississippi State football game.

It will be – and has been – a fun-filled day.

Oh, the photo was taken at the North Chickamauga Creek Greenway. A great place to hike, bike, canoe, fly a kite or walk your dog.

Book Trader – Snapshot of the Day, No. 294

111513_294BookTraderRI could not resist taking this lady’s photo. She looked so cute with her scarf.

We were at McKay Books. It’s a place where you buy, sell or trade books, cps, DVDs, games, etc……

It’s pretty cool if you don’t want to pay full price for stuff.
