Fern – Snapshot of the Day, No. 103

050813_103FernRFerns. I love them. You can usually find them in the woods. I don’t know why they make me feel so good. Maybe it is just a cozy feeling. Who knows.

Anyway, this poor thing is trying to bloom. I’ve had it inside all winter and it looks kind of scraggily. Maybe if I replant it into a different pot. Maybe I’ll just go buy another one to give it inspiration.

Candle Holders – Snapshot of the Day, No. 102

050713_102CandleHoldersRThese are some candles from my favorite store in Chattanooga: Blue Skies. I’ve mentioned it here before, but today I actually got to go there.

As usual, I had very little time. But I needed to pick up a couple of things, and today was going to be my only chance. As fortune would have it, I ran into an old friend of mine there. We had not seen in other in a while, so it was a nice surprise.

But anyway, these candles made a pretty neat pattern, so I decided to make them my Snapshot of the Day. I have a couple of them at home. They smell really good, and I suppose the glass holders can be refilled – or made into little vases.

Wigging Out – Snapshot of the Day, No. 101

050613_101WiggingOutRYears ago when I would take a lunch hour ( now I just eat while I work so I can leave work early), I’d walk to the river and back to get exercise and clear my head. Work was / is very stressful, so it was always nice to get out to give myself a break.

I never walked the same route twice in a row, but I would frequently walk past this store: the Downtown Mart. I would picture in my head how I might photograph this window one day. This is just a snapshot, but it does give me more ideas.

I’ve always been intrigued by these mannequin heads. Not one to like dolls (Barbie does not count), heads like these usually disturb me. I’m not sure I want to walk into this store, but perhaps I will the next time I walk by. If it’s daytime, of course.

Fallen Leaf – Snapshot of the Day, No. 100!!!

050513_100FallenLeafRWell, it has rained for two days, but for a few hours this afternoon, the sun came out. As usual, I had very little time to locate an interesting subject; but this little buy caught my eye. Using the macro lens shows me stuff on objects I would never have known was there. Who knew a leaf could have spikes like this?

Little Blue Bird – Snapshot of the Day, No. 99

050413_99LittleBlueBirdRThis is my new favorite necklace. Joe gave it to me for Christmas last year, and it has very special meaning to me. I shot this on top of a jewelry box he had given me the year before; and he brings me lots of joy, so there you have it.

Anyway, he bought this little bird necklace at my favorite store in town: Blue Skies. It’s in located on the North Shore in downtown Chattanooga. Check it out if you ever get the chance.

Forever USA – Snapshot of the Day, No. 98

050313_98ForeverUSARI love birds and bird art. I also love Post Office cancellation marks, or stamps. Imagine my delight today when I found this discarded envelope from a reader to our sports department.

I have bought Forever stamps before. They’re great! (Why did it take us so long to come up with that concept? Increasing the prices of stamps always left us with a few we would either throw away because they weren’t enough to mail a letter, or we’d have to buy some penny stamps to make up the difference. That’s fine, but that would require us to go to the Post Office to buy them. A big pain.)

But I’ve never seen a Forever envelope before. It had the bird image printed right on the front. Not only is that convenient, but we can see the artwork better. I loved this image.

Sea Land – Snapshot of the Day, No. 97

050213_97SeaLandRWe are, or were, a big railroad town. This is a portion of DeButts Yard downtown. It is a really large railroad yard.

I had to use the ole’ cell phone today because my husband needed the camera. But it does a pretty good job. I’m amazed it has a sharper lens than the one that came with the D90. Hmm. Time to get a new lens, I suppose.

“High Four” – Snapshot of the Day, No. 96

050113_96HighFourRThe first photo of this scene did not work out. A mother and daughter were looking at this sculpture when the younger son walked right in front of the dog as I was taking the photo. That’s no good. You couldn’t see the dog at all. So I……”scratched” it.

Pun intended.

Anyway, right after that, the mother and daughter walked on and the little boy stood there a moment longer and then walked off. That’s when I shot the second image. So it was Take Two for this image. But it was necessary, or it would not have made sense.

This sculpture was created by a woman named Louise Peterson from Guffey, Co. “High Four,” – Bronze, 2006, is one of my favorite sculptures in town. His raised paw is very shiny because people rub it when they walk up to him. It, or he, sits at the southern entrance to the Walnut Street Bridge. Our pedestrian / park bridge connecting downtown Chattanooga to the North Shore spanning over the Tennessee River.

Apple Stand – Snapshot of the Day, No. 95

043013_95AppleStandRToday was wild. I had no time to look or take a photo. I made myself stop at this produce stand down the street from us. P&P Fruit stand. I’ve shot here before, but it’s worth a second photo, I suppose. Locally grown stuff, and all. They don’t appear to have a website, or I’d include it. Oh well. If you live in town, look it up and give them a visit. It’s pretty cool inside.

Main Terrain – Snapshot of the Day, No. 94

042913_94MainTerrainRToday I went to our new downtown park called Main Terrain. I walked inside of it and found these fellows playing on the rings. It’s a park – slash – exercise-stationed place. It is really pretty nice and peaceful. I wanted to include all of them along with the entire ring station; but consequently, I’m not sure I got such a hot shot. Oh well. Hopefully it shows how much fun they all were having.
