The Disagreement – Snapshot of the Day, No. 113

051813_113TheDisagreementROur nephew had his 3rd birthday party today. Loads of fun for all involved. I took close to 100 photos, but this one was the one I designated in my head as the photo of the day before I shot it. My project being “One Shot – One Chance,” after all. But it was particularly hard to do today because so many more good ones came along later. I was tempted to just choose one of those, but they show faces. I am not so sure their parents would be thrilled with my using them here – especially since I knew none of them.

So, that brings me back to my first one. This was the pool party portion of the day. These two, obviously, each wanted to play with this bucket. It was quite the tug of war game for a few seconds. I’m not sure who let go first, but there were o tears shed thankfully.

Hunting Flies – Snapshot of the Day, No. 112

051713_112HuntingFliesRgYou may not believe me, but only after I named this image, “Hunting Flies,” did I notice our frog has an insect balanced on his nose in this shot.

I was busier than usual today at work. Fridays are always on the wild side. Today was extra busy. But anyway, no time for my shot of the day, so I had to settle for something at home. As I walked up to the front door, I noticed Jethro just sitting there on the edge of the pond. I love looking at him; but he’s not too sure of us, so he jumps in the water most times. I knew he was probably my best bet for a photo because I was losing light and it was beginning to rain.

So I shot his photo – willing him to not jump in the water while I focused. But seeing that insect on the tip of his nose just makes it. I guess he was lulling the poor thing into a false sense of security before he ate him.

Jethro must be an excellent hunter because he gets bigger every time we see him.

Being a Girl at Betty’s – Snapshot of the Day, No. 111

051613_111BeingAGirlAtBettysRAs luck would have it, I forgot my lunch today. So, darn it, I HAD to go to Panera and get my favorite sandwich, the Frontega Chicken panini. Meanwhile, I thought I’d use this time to grab my photo of the day.

Hmmm. Where to go? There is a cool shop right around the corner from Panera called, Backstreet Betty’s. It’s a dress shop mostly, and pretty neat inside.

I pretended to be shopping – lying in wait for just the right moment. But it’s times like these that I get funny looks. I get the feeling most of the time the clerks think I’m about to shoplift something. I must be acting suspiciously. Anyway, I missed an opportunity at one point. I just didn’t think it was photo-worthy. And as my project states, I only get one photo a day. Only one shot.

So I left and walked around the block to scout out something else. Drat. Nothing. And it was at this point I was about to give up. My meter was about to expire. I only had 20 cents and I had put that into the meter. I definitely couldn’t afford an $11 parking ticket.

SO – I walked back into Betty’s and, of course, got some funny looks. I decided to act like I couldn’t decide on a dress. Which was not too far off the mark – but it was $80, so that is usually a big fat NO for me.

Anyway, I turned when I heard a woman coming down the alley. I was just thinking I was going to get her walking by the storefront but I lucked up! She strolled right in through the front door flipping her hair. The perfect girl pose.

I left happy. And the sandwich was delicious, too once I got back to my desk.

Folsom Prison – Snapshot of the Day, No. 110

051513_110FolsomPrisonRFor over a year now, Joe and I have eaten more than once at Big River at Hamilton Place mall. It’s very close to my old house that we are renovating, and the food is very good. We usually split something, so it doesn’t cost us much. BUT we have a Passport card, so we get points for everything we buy. When we reach 850 points, we will receive a $100 gift card. Not too shabby! We’re at 747 right now.

But I digress. Every Wednesday night is “Ladies Night.” They also have live music outside during the warmer months. We usually sit outside, too, but on the other side. It’s a little quieter over there – and most importantly, no smoking.

Anyway, this guy was singing, “Folsom Prison,” while I was taking his photo, so that’s why I named it that.

For Good Causes – Snapshot of the Day, No. 109

051413_109ForGoodCausesRMy sister held a party for Freeset, a partner with Better Way Imports tonight. It’s an organization that gives women who have escaped from being sex slaves in India, among other countries, jobs and an education. The profits from the products they make go back to them to make it happen. The products are all very nice and relatively inexpensive.

Check it out if you are interested. It’s a very good cause. One would think in the 21st Century, we would have abolished slavery by now.

Pipe Dreams – Snapshot of the Day, No. 108

051313_108PipeDreamsRI did not have a chance to sneak away from work today on a break, so I had to settle for this pattern of tubes I found inside of Lowe’s. (We usually patronize The Home Depot – but not today.) As I have mentioned, we’re renovating my old house. Today we were buying supplies for the fence we’re replacing. We actually needed one of these tubes for a post hole. There was concrete there previously, so the hole is larger than the post. You can place these tubes in the ground in such cases. Just pour in some gravel – set your post, and then pour your concrete around your new post.

Problem solved.

We’ve learned so much on this project, but I’m ready for it to be finished. As is everyone in our lives.

Red Food Store – Snapshot of the Day, No. 107

051213_107RedFoodStoreRI found this sticker today at my former house that we’re in the middle of renovating. Our mother used to shop there. I thought it was appropriate since the Red Food Store no longer exists, and she has since passed away. Since today is Mother’s Day, I thought it was meant to be my subject of the day.

Elvis’s Jukebox – Snapshot of the Day, 106

031113_106ElvisJukeboxRWe went to Dwight’s Swap Shop today just to look around for a minute. It was very interesting and slightly scary at times. But I liked this so-called Elvis corner, so I decided to make it my snapshot of the day.

However, I was slightly taken aback when I turned around and saw this guy:

CreepyThingRI’m not sure what he actually is; but, there were two of them. I think I saw him in one of my nightmares one night.

Girl in the Polka Dotted Dress – Snapshot of the Day, No. 105

051013_105GirlInThePolkaRMy eyes got wide when I saw this little girl in the polka dotted dress standing on these cobblestones. She and her family were waiting outside for a table at a restaurant downtown called Urban Stack.

They have burgers and chicken sandwiches. Mostly burgers. But the chicken sandwich is really, REALLY good. I recommend it.

But anyway, I loved the patterns the two had together. The mom, however, was wondering what I was doing. But once again, I took this with my cell camera. Amazing how sharp it is.

Welcome to Tennessee – Snapshot of the Day, No. 104

050913_104WelcomeToTennRWell, you’ve got to admire a man who loves his hat and is not afraid to show it.

Today is our anniversary, so Joe and I went to dinner at Boccaccia after work and then to a Chattanooga Lookouts baseball game. This is where we found our fellow baseball fan.

The Lookouts, the farm team for the Los Angeles Dodgers had an off night. They lost to Mobile by quite a lot. I stopped looking at the scoreboard. But we had a ball (no pun intended) anyway. We jumped on the trolley after the game which took us back to our car.

It was a good night.
