Watering the Paperwhites – Day No. 13

020713_13PaperwhitesRSomething told me I would not have any time to shoot during my lunch hour today; and as it turned out, I did not. This is water on the stem of the paperwhites plant in my kitchen. (It has seen better days)

Coke and Mirrors — Day 12

020613_12CokeAndMirrorsRI couldn’t resist. A Coke delivery truck pulled up next to me while I was trying to decide what my photo of the day would be.

Hmmm. I decided to take it as a sign considering I have such an addiction to Coca Cola. My mouth literally waters whenever I see the logo and their signature color red.

Perhaps it is because Coke has such a history in this city.

Nope. It’s the sugar and caffeine. Definitely.

Mysterious lunch — No. 11 snapshot

020513_11LunchDateRIn my attempt to make a spooky photo of this outdoor cafe, I inadvertently spooked this couple eating their lunch. They turned away from me until I was finished with my photo and started walking back to my car. At least I wasn’t confronted like I was yesterday.

Shot of the Day No. 10 — The Innside Restaurant

020413_10InnsideRestaurantROk. This one has a story. As usual, I only had a few minutes before I had to get back to work, so I was hoping someone would be sitting in this window eating a late lunch. Every time I have ever walked past this restaurant, someone has been sitting at a table by the window. Surely luck would be with me today!

I drive by and – Jackpot! Two men sitting and talking. Perfect. I park, put money in the meter, grab my camera and dash across the street. But as soon as I start framing the shot and attempt to focus, I get busted. They turn and start laughing at the fact I’m taking their photo, so I smile behind the camera and wave. But just when I think I’m free to take the shot, out walks a man from the restaurant.

He says to me, “What are you doing?”

I say, “Oh, I’m just taking a photo.” I drop the camera from my face to be polite and immediately notice the man is wearing a gun on his belt. Great! My first thought: “This man REALLY does not want me taking a photo here. He’s going to shoot me.” My second thought: “He must be an undercover police officer. Am I about to be arrested?”

He continues, “Those guys think you’re taking a picture of them.”

I say, “Well, I’m mostly taking a photo of the reflection……..” – which was partially true. I really WAS wanting to take a photo of the two guys talking. But then the guy with the gun lifts the American flag out of the bracket on the sidewalk – virtually ruining my shot. So I say, “…..and the American flag! Don’t take the flag away!”

Now this rattles the gun-guy, so he puts the flag back, apologizing profusely. I take the shot – only one, of course – and then I walk away and thank the guy.

“Have a nice day!”

I get back to my car, feeling slightly guilty for semi-lying to the guy so he wouldn’t shoot me; but I am thrilled I had gotten the shot. I look back to see the flag no longer there. I was just in time for that. I think it makes the photo.

No. 9 — The White Dogs

020313_9TheWhiteDogsRMy intention for today’s photo was not these two; especially since yesterday’s image was of my dog, Murray. My plan was to photograph the burro who lives with these dogs. Her name is Maggie and she LOVES the apples we bring her. My plan was to get a closeup of her teeth when she grabbed an apple slice. But when Joe and I approached the fence, the dogs came to greet us, but not Maggie. Oh well. I decided to go with plan B since the sun was setting and I was running out of time for my daily photo. Right – and I do mean RIGHT after I took this photo, Maggie came galloping out of nowhere for her apples. Darn it! Too late. The project is one photo, one shot. So maybe next time, Maggie.

Day 7 — On Thin Ice

020113_7OnThinIceRThis is a sheet of film for a newspaper page. It, along with several others, have been taped to the window in one of our offices to prevent the occupant from getting sunburned on a bright day. I have never gotten close enough to read what was on the page until today. I love the headline for one of the ads – “On Thin Ice,” – juxtaposed with a couple of funeral home promotions.

Gallery Reflection — Snapshot No. 6

013113_6GalleryReflectionRWork was so hectic today, the sun was down before I was able to walk outside to find a place to shoot. At least the days are getting longer giving me a little more time to work on my “One Photo, One Shot” project. Vivian Maier inspired me on this one.

Snapshot of the Day – Crosswalk

013013_5CrosswalkWorkingR
My window of opportunity for taking my daily snapshot was very small today. I had to settle for a quick shot out of a window that has not been washed in a while. I stood there a few minutes in hopes someone with a red or yellow umbrella would walk by, but that never happened. I had to settle for a young woman dressed in black.
